Josephine, the resolute
This coffee is decaffeinated using the sugar cane method directly in the country of origin. Cane sugar is plentiful here, and using this resource to naturally extract caffeine from the bean is extremely clever. Not only that 99% of the water used can be reused, the gentle process means that the beans retain their full aroma and thus offer a perfect, tasty highlight in the cup. A real praline. Our homage to Josephine Jeuck, the first manager of the Maldan coffee house from 1949 to 2000.
The origin: natural sugar cane process from Colombia
The 100% Arabica beans come from our women's association El Trebol in Colombia. There, the Castillo variety is grown and picked by hand by 74 women. The caffeine is then removed from the beans using the sugar cane process. The process takes place without the use of chemicals - we use a natural process and a vertically integrated supply chain to decaffeinate our coffee: The cultivation, preparation, processing and the complete decaffeination process takes place on site in Colombia. In sugar caning, cane-based molasses is fermented to produce ethanol, which in turn is mixed with acetic acid. This removes the caffeine from the coffee bean in a natural way. Through this natural process, the green coffee retains its full flavor. Sustainable and delicious at the same time. El Trebol is a project that is particularly close to our hearts. With direct trade, fair payment and the promotion of local social projects, we want to support the sustainable future of women in El Trebol.
